Why buy a foal?

When we start thinking about buying a horse, we usually think about an adult horse (at least 3 years old), a 'broken' horse, i.e a horse who is able to 'bear' his rider at walk trot and canter, go trail riding, even jump a little...a 'turnkey' horse in other words.
But buying a horse is a lot different, it means choosing a companion for life, an animal who will depend on you every single day; before even thinking about climibing on his back you must guarantee his safety, his comfort, his education. This programme is much more challenging than simply putting a saddle on his back and go jumping or trail riding...but it is also much more rewarding!

In this respect choosing a foal or a very young horse is a unique adventure, which enables you to build a true relationship, completely different from the one you get with an already adult horse. And there are so many things you can do with a foal, even before thinking about riding him! play at liberty in the pasture or in the round corral, with different lines, make him discover places, people, sensations, build him an obstacle course, teach him to play ball...there are endless possibilities, and all this contributes to developing the foal's confidence, respect, attention and motivation, which will make you the happiest owner/rider.
